A registered sex offender and his girlfriend are facing child abuse charges after Florida police allegedly caught the woman dangling her 3-year-old boy out a window to prevent cops from seeing him in the offender’s apartment.

Daytona Beach police said they arrived at the apartment of Phillip P. Heidt, 20, after they heard a tip that children were seen there. Heidt is disallowed from being near anyone under 18 as part of his probation, authorities told the Orlando Sentinel.

When talking to officers at the door, Heidt said there were no children in his apartment and that his girlfriend, Deeanna M. Murray, 24, was in the shower.

Murray wouldn’t come out and talk to police from the bathroom, but stuck her head out and said she needed to get dressed.

After hearing baby’s cries coming from the bathroom, an officer went around to the rear of the residence and spotted Murray trying to lower the 3-year-old out of the bathroom window onto a small roof. The roof was three feet wide and ten feet off the ground, with no borders to keep the boy from falling, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Murray obeyed orders to pull the child back into the bathroom, where police said they found another son of hers -- a 2-year-old boy -- who was partially clothed alongside Murray.

The Florida Department of Children and Families now have custody of the children.
