YAPHANK, N.Y. – New York officials are raising the reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for leaving human remains along a remote highway leading to Long Island's Jones Beach.
Officials said Thursday the reward is climbing from $5,000 to $25,000. That makes it the largest reward in the history of the Suffolk County Crime Stoppers reward program.
Ten sets of human remains have been found along Ocean Parkway on a barrier beach south of Long Island since December. Four bodies located close to each other were identified as slain prostitutes, who authorities believe may have been the victims of a serial killer.
Authorities also believe other killers may have left some of the additional remains. Officials say some of the remains have been there for more than a decade.
